Tulsa Artist Fellowship welcomes community members to our signature monthly event, First Friday. This series engages visitors through open studios, artworks on view, and curated music. Plus, enjoy food and drinks by Que Gusto and Heirloom Rustic Ales!
This month, Flagship reopens with The Hidden Gospels of Dust by awardee Ashanti Chaplin, which presents a striking visual representation of life’s fleeting nature against the backdrop of the eternal. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Chaplin says, “This dust gospel eloquently articulates the paradoxical human condition: our quest for permanence in a world defined by change, our search for meaning in the face of inevitable oblivion, and our enduring spirit that strives to understand our place in the cosmos.”
At Archer Studios, sit and listen to digital content curated from monthly sessions of Blues U, a queer/feminist, black, and indigenous improvisational platform for a 21st-century Blues University syllabus. The zine collection features artist Treva Ellison who shared insights about Black Queer Geographies and Waterways on the Blues U radio broadcast.
Awardee Karl Jones and Center for Queer Prairie Studies and Studio 66 co-director Chris VanDenhende reset the parafiction exhibition project, Center for Queer Prairie Studies, by featuring the work of dozens of local artists representing the Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Stillwater, and Bentonville, AR communities. The gallery includes a museum store and a one-of-a-kind queer creator economy boutique, as well as a dynamic community events space.
The entry gallery features Sunrising In-Progress, a preview of Shane Darwent's 120-foot Tulsa International Airport installation.
