Step out of your comfort zone and try something new at the TCC I Can’t workshops held in-person and online on Saturdays. Think you can’t sculpt, draw, or write songs? Think again! Free and open to the public.

Tulsa Artist Fellow Adam Davis will host a lecture and photography demonstration titled, ‘Another Day Closer to History’ courtesy of Next Steps in collaboration with Tulsa Community College and Tulsa Artist Fellowship. Davis' portrait practice has traveled around the country to build the largest collection of Black American and global Diasporic tintype portraits in contemporary art history. During the lecture, Davis will explore what archive building looks like, how Blackness renders behind the lens, and how the photography medium can expand through archaic and analog methods.

Attend this workshop in person at the McKeon Center for Creativity, 910 S. Boston Ave. Or watch online live.

Adam Davis is from Brooklyn. And Long Island. And Queens. And anywhere he travels to, somehow. He started photography with his iPhone back in 2012 after graduating high school with both graduation and birthday money, heading straight to the AT&T store to get taken advantage of as an 18-year-old in a solo contract/lease agreement. After downloading VSCO, it was a wrap. Instagram was downloaded, and shortly after was an acute obsession with exploring New York City. Fast forward a few years later, after borrowing a camera from my former manager at Nike, and a deep depression at a University in West Virginia, the obsession was solidified. Davis proceeded to build relationships with the creative community in the Greater Los Angeles area to develop his practice starting in a studio apartment in Koreatown. With aid from his service dog Carmen and countless other human beings, Davis has been fortunate in his pursuits to bring to life the intimate moments in the studio and darkroom over the years.

The TCC Thomas K. McKeon Center for Creativity ignites the creative spirit through education, collaboration, and inspiration. It provides creative spaces for learning, both for students and the community.
