Reconnection is a process through which one ultimately goes to one's ancestral homelands, keeps the earth, learns language and ceremony, and generally carries on ancestral ways in a modern, contemporary context. Reconnection may be the most transformative journey of your life. In this reading and open mic night focused on Osage reconnection, contributors to the 2022 Osage Reconnection Zine read from the first edition of their community collaborative zine, a publication focused on building connection amongst their people and providing information to those who feel disconnected.
Osage Reconnection Zine editors Chelsea T. Hicks and Aimee Inglis started to collect their art and writing along the theme of reconnection to Osage culture. They decided to open a call for submissions to amplify other Osage voices and be in the community together.
Reconnection is a form of rematriation, or cultural land-based reconnection that is an alternative to racism and appropriation. Rematriation is a way to participate in anti-racism and equity for all. Come enjoy this Osage Reconnection-themed reading celebrating the 2022 Osage Reconnection Zine, and then share your own work at the open mic to follow. Space limited to 40 attendees. Among the Osages published in the zine are Hicks, Inglis, Stephen Coleman-Roush, Talee Redcorn, Dena Cosby, Duane BigEagle, Ruby Hansen Murray and Richard Wood. Copies of the zine will be available at the reading.
