Hosted by Matt Gallagher

TULSA ARTIST FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMMING IS FREE AND OPEN TO ALL
Please join us for a special Veteran's Day conversation with Marine Corps veteran and National Book Award winner Phil Klay. In virtual conversation with Tulsa Artist Fellow Matt Gallagher, Phil will discuss his seminal story collection Redeployment, his essay collection Uncertain Ground, and his novel Missionaries (one of NPR's best books of 2020, one of the Wall Street Journal's Ten Best Books of the Year), how the relationship between society and the US military has changed in recent years, and why writing about armed violence in literature is more important now than ever.
A decade after the publication of Redeployment, Phil and Matt will revisit their transitions from soldiers to authors, the importance of developing as writers in a safe-but-critical community, and what individuals can do to help inform people on matters of war and peace. They'll also discuss the way military and veterans issues impact American politics and Phil's current project, a novel set during the Cold War in Eastern Europe.
